The cat’s out of the bag, or rather, the wig’s out of the box! The much-anticipated Great White Way debut of Hedwig and the Angry Inch opens on April 22 at the Belasco Theatre, with Emmy winner Neil Patrick Harris donning the transgender rock star’s wig, fishnets and heels. Tony winner Michael Mayer directs the new production of the cult favorite.
To celebrate the musical’s opening night, Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson created this portrait of Harris as Hedwig and Lena Hall as Yitzhak, Hedwig’s husband and backup singer, rocking out to Stephen Trask's score and John Cameron Mitchell's book.
Broadway.com wishes Harris, Hall and everyone at Hedwig a happy opening! You can spit beer in our face, yell at us, whatever. We’ll just beg for more.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
